This hike was one for the memory books. Only about 4 miles but took us over 3 hours to complete (due to getting off trail) My girlfriend and I decided to tackle this one on a rare really warm day in Lake Arrowhead. So with that being said, bring plenty of water no matter what the weather says. You always need to stay hydrated. I had looked this trail up as it was my first time in Arrowhead.

The trailhead from the lake village wasn’t too far and pretty easy to find. We parked at the first little parking area off to the left and walked down to the shooting range to where I was told the trail starts. You can park at either spot and make your way back to the trail from both. You will need an Adventure pass to park. $5 daily or the $30 annual pass. Can be bought at any REI or at the 7/11 off Holiday Road here in town.

This trail was fairly easy to follow thanks to some directions I looked up prior to going. The cell service was minimal so have your directions and maps downloaded prior to heading to the trailhead. Getting to the peak was a but difficult for us as we went off trail twice. I was following the directions and it said something about maybe having to be on all fours to get up a section. Which led to me continuing up a boulder field scouting for the trail. I ended up spotting down lower what looked like the trail marker we needed to be going near. But instead of going back down, knowing we had to come back up eventually…we traversed across and got a little off track again. Finally, back on trail and to the right peak.

Once we got to the peak it was a little, not so clear trail with overgrown brush. Decent amount of minor bouldering to reach the peak. So worth the views once we finally made it. A full 360 view and overlooking Silverwood Lake. Also going back down was much easier to follow the trail. We did not get lost or off trail heading back.

So my main suggestion is to stay to the right when you first encounter a bigger rocky peak, which is seen from the very beginning. You must stay to right and go over the little saddle area and then eventually you will see the boulder peak you must climb. Follow the few trail markers and cairns.

Sunscreen and sun protection is a must.
