My first tip for visiting Sedona is to wake up as early as possible to make sure you can get parking at the trail head and avoid the mass crowds! I can’t express this enough. As Sedona is extremely busy year-round. It’s possible if you try to go to one of these trails in the afternoon you may not find parking…or will have to park a few miles away. Then you’ll have to walk the extra distance in order to arrive at the trail head. Now I know not everybody is an early bird. BUT for some of these breathtaking views and, to REALLY enjoy these spots with your significant other and/or friends…it is totally worth it!

My second tip would be to plan out your day. Check to see if there are trails close enough to one another so you can just keep the same parking spot. This way you can walk from one trail to the next. In some of the locations there are multiple trails you can do from just one parking spot. So…based off my first tip. If you can get a good parking spot near the hike you really want to do, take it! Now you can go back to the car and depending on how long the hike is, grab lunch or a late morning snack. Then move on over to the next trail by just walking. Now I know NOT all the trails are within walking distance…but if you want to do certain hikes which fall within this realm, then you’re winning. If you plan this out correctly, you may be able to avoid driving and searching for parking at all the different spots. For example the parking/trail head for Boynton Canyon also allows you to connect to the trails which can take you over to Birthing Cave. If you wanted to try to do those two hikes back to back, then you’re set! Birthing Cave is a little bit further distance from here than the main parking. But let’s say the parking is taken at the trail head by the time you get there. Then you may be parking further and the total miles for the trip may end up being the same. So you just avoid the wasted time and hassle searching for a parking spot.

My third tip would be to check the weather. Check for the time of year you’ll be going because it can get really hot there! You may want to avoid the heat of the day. But if you decide to go make sure you have plenty of water and sun protection.

My fourth tip is the trails I recommend checking out. These are not listed in a specific order. Trails I recommend are; Devil’s Bridge, Cathedral Rock, Boynton Canyon (Secret Cave), Bear Mountain Trail, Vultee Arch and Birthing Cave. I would have to say that all of these are family friendly except for Bear Mountain Trail, which is a bit more difficult than the rest. Secret Cave, Devil’s Bridge and Cathedral Rock all offer great photo opportunities. Secret Cave is also not so secret anymore and can be accessed pretty easily. If you’d like to find that one check out my other Boynton Canyon (Secret Cave) blog. For more details about each one check out these blogs.

The last tip is for those of you who love to enjoy a refreshing beer after you’ve completed a nice hike. Sedona Beer Co. and Oak Creek Brewery and Grill are great places to grab an ice cold beer. They both offer food too! I can’t compare the two to tell you which one I liked more as they both offer delicious beer and scrumptious food. But what I can say is, Oak Creek Brewery and Grill is more like a restaurant and Sedona Beer Co. is more like a typical brewery. Oak Creek also has their brewery, not just the grill, but we did not make it to this location. So check these places out, grab a beer and enjoy your time in Sedona!

Check out the breweries!
